The area includes the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, Mustang Island State Park, and North Padre Island National Seashore. The entire Coastal Bend is know for the rich diversity of wildlife and as an import bird migration corridor, and as the wintering refuge of the endangered whooping crane.
