Growing up in the Pacific Northwest Nate Chappell loved the natural world and animals from an early age. He became hooked on wildlife photography when he took his first trip to Africa in 1999. From that point on he combined his interest in bird watching with photography and took many bird photography trips around the world. In 2004 he met his future wife Angie in Ecuador and in 2007 they founded the nature photo tour company, Trogon Photo Tours. Since that time Nate has led dozens of photo tours and workshops throughout the world.
Nate has photographed over 1,500 species of bird on 6 continents. His work is represented by several top nature photography stock agencies. Nate enjoys teaching and is known for his ability to simplify complex subjects for his students. He has been a critique moderator for Nature Photographers Online Magazine for the past 8 years. He was a portfolio reviewer at the most recent NANPA summit and his images have been regularly represented in the NANPA Showcase, for example he had 10 images in the 2015 Showcase. His images have placed in the Chasing the Light and Share the View photo contests as well. Whenever possible in his nature photography he tries to show the behavior and interaction of the wildlife he is photographing.
