James Neihouse has honed his skills as a professional image maker over more than four decades. In those years he has traveled the globe documenting the natural world.
James graduated from the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography in 1976, and was chosen as the first recipient of the school’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008.
He has trained astronauts to shoot IMAX® films in space, lead film crews to the remote jungles of India and Africa, filmed polar bears in the Arctic, rocket launches in Kazakstan, consulted on design and development of various imaging systems, and mentored countless students in the photographic arts.
His work has appeared in magazines, newspapers, websites, television and giant screen movie theaters around the world. He has provided images for clients such as National Geographic, Smithsonian Institute, IMAX®, NASA, Scripts Institute, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Honda, Disney Studios, and Warner Brothers.
His accolades include a Kodak Vision Award, Advanced Imaging Society Lumiere, New York World Festivals Gold Medal, Two Giant Screen Cinema Association Outstanding Achievement Awards, University of Central Arkansas Distinguished Alumni Award, and NASA Astronauts Silver Snoopy Award. In 2017 he was named by the Imaging Alliance as one of their Visionary Photographers.
Since 2007, when not traveling the world capturing amazing images, James teaches filmmaking at the university in Orlando, FL. He also teaches in the American Society of Cinematographers Master Classes and lectures world-wide.
