The colors of autumn give way to the whites, grays, and blacks of winter. The cool nights merge into the cold days. The world pauses during the chill of winter before it can be reborn in the spring. Come with Mountaineer Photo Excursions as we capture the special and fleeting time of winter, as we visit beautiful Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County, Maryland, in February of 2023. This winter workshop in the snow and cold of a western Maryland Winter will challenge you, but the experience and images you bring home will be worth the effort!
Amanda Haddox and Ron Gaskins will take you to the shores of Deep Creek Lake, the largest inland body of water in Maryland. It can be cold enough to allow ice fishing and for the waterfalls to freeze! The snow changes and creates its own landscapes, different and beautiful to see! Have you seen an icy crystal waterfall? Can you travel back in time to an historic train station? We will! We’ll walk out on a frozen lake and photograph ice fishermen…this will be your chance to go out in the snow and experience all the opportunities that winter photography has to offer… in the safety of a group with two experienced photographers leading the way. We will see nature in an entirely different aspect from how it appears during the rest of the year…frozen…suspended. Winter isn’t a dead time…it is a beautiful, white paradise!
Our weekend won’t be entirely snowballs, however. We have selected some interesting indoor venues, as well! Watch artisans as they combine art and utility in their creations of wood and metal. Using both old and new technology, we’ll see glass globs become objects of beauty. We plan to visit a local creamery, where you can taste fresh cheese and even bring home some tasty treats along with your photos!

LODGING: Clients will enjoy warm and relaxing lodging at the Inn at Deep Creek Lake in Oakland, MD. Rooms are equipped to please the traveler; all rooms offer a private full bathroom with hair dryer, coffee maker, TV, microwave, refrigerator, and Wi-Fi. Lodging expense is included in the workshop fee. WHO: Ron and Amanda are welcoming a maximum of 9 people for this workshop.
FEE: Registration is OPEN! Our “Early Bird” discount Fee is $890.00, a 15%+ discount!. To receive the Early Bird discount fee, you must register and pay your fee in full no later than Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 11:00 pm. After that date, our regular fee of $1090.00 will be in effect. A $600.00 deposit will confirm your spot. Registration is managed by Mountaineer Photo Excursions, as well as your motel reservations; lodging, admission to selected venues, and instruction are included. Meals and local transportation are not included. All registration will close on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 11:00 pm.
