If you told me that you would only visit sub-Saharan Africa once in your life – this is the adventure I would suggest.
This adventure is timed around the great migration reaching the rich grasses of the southern Serengeti – and giving birth to a million baby wildebeest. That event is brought about by new rainfall – which brings the region to life and triggers so much action. Other species will be having little ones, too. Expect lions, leopards, and cheetahs!
This is also my favorite time in Tarangire National Park, where we’ll find elephant families, giant baobab forests, a wealth of ungulates, many raptors, and a host of other animals. Yes, cats!
We have blocked great space and time in the Ngorongoro crater, which I describe as a giant fishbowl full of so many great species – a fishbowl we’ll get to poke around in! The species here are used to people, which makes them more patient as we photograph them in great detail.
We’ll not just record species on this safari – we’ll take time to get to know them and to capture their actions and interactions. We have a great group of guides who work closely with us to position the safari vehicles for great light, background, and action.
You will come home changed. You will have a sense of Africa before colonization changed everything. You will have witnessed a massive set of ecosystems where animals are not behind fences, performing unfettered. You will have great animal and landscape images – and new skills.
And, if you are like me, Africa will tug at your heart forever afterwards! Please join me!
