Part I: Savannah’s Southern Charm
Your journey begins in the heart of Savannah, Georgia where elegant squares adorned with statues and ornate fountains and the stately architecture of historic homes offer photographic inspiration. In early spring, the city comes alive with color: Spring rains bring to life resurrection ferns that cover the gnarled limbs of ancient Live Oaks trees while Spanish moss drapes gracefully from their branches. Vibrant azalea bushes blooming in shades of pink frame pathways creating a quintessential Southern backdrop. You’ll explore techniques for capturing both landscapes and architectural scenes that highlight Savannah’s timeless character and charm.

Part II: The Golden Isles – Jekyll Island & Beyond
Midtrip, the workshop shifts from city to coast as we travel 1.5 hours south to the breathtaking Golden Isles. Here, the scenery transforms into a photographer’s playground of dramatic driftwood beaches, expansive salt marshes, and coastal birds. At sunrise and sunset, you’ll photograph sculptural “skeletal trees” rising from the surf, experiment with silhouettes, and practice capturing the motion of waves in shifting light. Shrimp boats, pelicans, and shorebirds offer opportunities for dynamic wildlife and environmental storytelling. For those who love detail work, the driftwood’s intricate textures and organic shapes provide perfect subjects for close-up and macro photography.
