Route 66 Headed West with Tom and Cree Bol

We start our photo tour on Route 66 in Albuquerque, NM and continue all the way to Winslow, AZ. We will be based out of classic Route 66 hotels during the trip (El Vado, El Rancho and The Wigwam Motel) and the La Posada, and have maximized our photography time and minimized our driving time between locations.

On our road trip, we will: 1) discuss how to create an effective picture story 2) explain techniques needed to produce a compelling portfolio of images. We will shoot long exposures of street scenes, and photograph neon at night. Participants will have the opportunity for portrait photography using available light, speed lights and studio strobes. Our days will be filled photographing all aspects of Route 66. Get ready for classic Americana including neon signs, landscapes, people, petrified wood, classic cars and more!

Hotels: One of the highlights of this workshop is staying in vintage motels. Be sure to book early as these motels have limited space. We have four great vintage motels to for our road trip. We stay in a luxury hotel in Winslow to end the workshop in style.

Albuquerque October 23: El Vado Hotel This vintage hotel was recently renovated – and has what Tom calls “very swanky” rooms. Call the front desk at (505) 361-1667. Choose between the standard King approx. or the King Suites

Gallup October 24: We will be staying at the El Rancho Hotel, This was a former hangout for Hollywood movie stars.

Holbrook October 25: We will sleep in a wigwam at the Wigwam Motel . This is a small motel so be sure to book early. Reservations can be made online at reservations@sleepinawigwam.com or by phone between 3-9 standard mountain time at (928) 524-3048. Mention you are in Cree’s group or they may say it is SOLD OUT

Winslow October 26: We move to the historic La Posada Hotel in Winslow. This hotel was once the finest hotel in Northern Arizona. We will be “standing on the corner” in Winslow, Arizona, for the final shoot of the workshop.

Closest Airport: Albuquerque International Sunport. Drive time from Sunport to the El Vado is 20 minutes. Drive time from Winslow to Albuquerque is about 4 hours.
