Western Colorado in the fall has one of the most vibrant displays of autumn color in the United States. Home to the densest groves of aspen trees in the country, brilliant gold and orange aspens saturate the valleys below the jagged snow-capped peaks of the San Juan Mountains. The air is cool, the elk are bugling in the forest, and the night skies are great for star photography.
We have been leading trips to this area for over a decade, and will take you to some of our favorite spots. We will photograph classic areas like Dallas Divide and Mt. Sneffels and head up into the high country for beautiful orange aspens near Owl Creek Pass and Chimney Rock. Above Ouray we will photograph more stands of aspen and deserted gold mines. In addition to the grand landscapes, macro photography is excellent. We also plan to light paint and photograph the stars one night.
