At the end of the winter, Pacific herring migrate in mass to spawn in shallow waters on the coast of Vancouver Island, in British Columbia. This spectacular annual event attracts a lot of wildlife; whales, sea lions, seals, bald eagles, minks, river otters and shore birds gather in large numbers. Orcas can sometimes be seen from the shore. Although the exact moment of spawning is unpredictable, the wildlife activity during this period is intense.
Each day, we will start early (7 AM) to take advantage of the light and wildlife activity and we will walk in the forest and on the coast. We could take short ferry rides (10 minutes) to small islands depending on wildlife activity.
