If you haven't had the joy of listening to a Willow Ptarmigan calling, do yourself a favor and stop right now, open up your favorite birding app and play the call. I'm guessing you will be amazed and start laughing at the same time! It's wild to hear these goofy birds calling out all over the tundra. Unlike my previous post where I mentioned the bland scenery of Utqiagvik this was captured in Nome where the scenery is gorgeous! Here is another image captured at near 100mm just so I could show off this amazing habitat. This was also 3am about an hour after sunset and about an hour until sunrise. It was so cool to be able to shoot all night long and still have plenty of light.
