Alaska Brown Bear Photography Workshop | September 2026 Fall Salmon Run with Michael Schultz

Eight days at Silver Salmon Creek Lodge in Lake Clark National Park photographing coastal brown bears during the hyperphagia feeding window. September is the quietest and most technically rewarding month on the Bear Coast — dominant males reaching 1,000-plus pounds, salmon still running in the streams, fall color across the Chigmit Mountains, and low-angle light that doesn’t repeat until the following September. Mobile ground-based viewing (no fixed platforms) lets us reposition for light and composition as the bears move across tidal flats, sedge meadows, and stream edges.
Group size capped at 5 photographers. $8,500 per person, all-inclusive: round-trip floatplane from Anchorage, lodging at Silver Salmon Creek Lodge, all meals, daily guided field instruction, and evening post-processing sessions. Instruction covers exposure discipline for rapid-light situations, reading bear behavior to anticipate action, composition in mixed light, and workflow for wildlife files. Pitched at serious intermediate-to-advanced photographers with a 200–400mm telephoto setup.
