The Mission Valley of Montana
May 15-19 : May is one of my favorite months to shoot images in Montana. Its greening up in the valley floor, there is abundant water with lots of migrating birds and there are dramatic snow-capped mountains looming over the spectacular landscapes. One of the best places in which to capture this picture postcard environment is the Mission Valley of Montana. The valley is extremely striking with the Mission Mountain Range rising abruptly in the east from the valley floor. There really arent too many places in Montana that can rival this setting. From our base in Polson, we will have amazing opportunities to capture springtime in Montana at its finest. Flathead Lake, the largest freshwater natural lake in the west should have cherry orchards in bloom, the National Bison Range will just be opening and there will be newborn bison calves amongst the herd. In the valley there are cool looking clay cliffs along the Flathead River and plenty of rural roads with access to the Ninepipe and Pablo National Wildlife Refuges with their wealth of birds are just some of the possibilities with this special workshop.
May 16, 2014
May 16-18 : Spring is a great time to be at Chincoteague! This workshop will cover how to think conceptually and create abstracts of common subjects to challenge the viewers perceptions. We will create absract art with flowing water and photograph ocean views, beach scenes, patterns and textures in the sand, marshes and plant life. You can expect to see and possibly photograph many different bird speciesor birds that return to the island in the spring. There may be opportunities to photograph the fabled Chincoteague Ponies, Sika Deer and other wildlife that inhabits the island.
The workshop includes instructional presentations that will inspire and explain how to make dramatic and beautiful photographs at this location. There will be plenty of field instruction that will cover techniques like capturing and freezing motion, long exposures and other creative aspects. A constructive critique of the participants photographs will complete the workshop.

May 18-24, 2014(6 nights) : This landscape testifies to nature's beauty, size and diversity huge mountains, rugged foothills, deep canyons and giant Sequoias - the worlds largest trees!!! These two parks are side by side in the southern Sierra Nevada, John Muirs Range of Light and well be looking for those moments of magic light. Well do a lot of wide angle shooting to emphasize the size of the Sequoias as well as telephoto work.
>From our base lodge we will explore both parks for iconic shots, as well as some hidden gems David will show us. The timing is right for blooming dogwoods, and well look for ways to include them in our shots as well.
May 25, 2014
May 25-29, 2014 : Join both Nate Chappell and Ken Archer to photograph Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons and other birds feeding on spawning fish on Hood Canal, WA. It's a great location for action photography. We will also take a boat trip to photograph Orcas and spend some time with the local Wood Ducks. We aim to catch the season of Tuscany's red poppy fields - nature's palette of color. Dan and Tanya will be the main tour leaders and we'll also have a local photographer part time helping us with the best locations for sunrise and sunset shoots and at other times a city guide will join us. May 29-June 1, 2014 : This is Texas best state park for wildlife and birds. And one of my personal favorite animals, the American Alligator abounds in this hauntingly beautiful swamp park. It is also common to see Nine-banded Armadillo, White-Tailed Deer, and other iconic, Texas wildlife. But best of all, for the bird-lovers, this park attracts a huge variety of magnificent and rare birds. Watch White Egrets, Great Blue Herons (and every other kind of heron), American Bittern, loons, bobwhites, turkeys, pelicans, and many more!
Waterfalls of Letchworth State Park
May 29-June 1, 2014 : The unqualified Grand Canyon of the East is a great venue for nature photographers all year long, but never better than when the Genesee River and the park's many waterfalls (23 most of the time) are flowing at their peak. Add the spring forests and wildflowers along with a leisurely raft trip down the gorge and you'll quickly understand why this has become one of my most popular tours.
