To celebrate Nature Photography Day, NANPA held another successful Bioblitz on iNaturalist from June 7 – 17. NANPA members recorded 1,809 observations of 1,147 species across the US and Canada.
NANPA awarded gift cards to three winners in the Bioblitz. Gouri Prakash won for the most species, a total of 301. Mr. Prakash commented “It never fails to amaze me what I might find and where the journey will lead to. I was super-excited, when a citizen science project reached out to me to participate in their research project on Jewelweed based on the observations I had collected during the bioblitz.”
Joseph Richards won the Bioblitz Judge’s Choice award for his photo of a Mallow Scrub-Hairstreak, a butterfly that is listed as Vulnerable in the US by IUCN. Joseph was also a participant in NANPA’s College Program at the recent NANPA Summit in Tucson.
Finally, Cathryn Hoyt won the random drawing from people with more than 10 observations. Cathryn shared “I love doing the Bioblitz. It always motivates me to get out and see what’s moving. Thank you for doing this every year.”
Thanks to Gouri, Joseph, Cathryn, and all of the photographers that participated in this year’s Bioblitz.
