Know anyone going to college to study photography? Then they ought to know about this terrific opportunity from the NANPA Foundation. The Janie Moore Greene Scholarship Grant is a $2,000 award given biennially, through the generosity of Janie Moore Greene, to a student currently enrolled in, or who has been accepted to, an institution of higher education and will be specializing in the study of photography. The application window closes October 30th at 11:00 p.m. EDT. Don’t let this opportunity slip by!
You never know where the study of and passion for nature photography will take you. Paul Colangelo received the 2006 Janie Moore Green Scholarship Grant as a student at Langara College in Vancouver, British Columbia. He went on to become a professional documentary photographer who is focused on environmental issues and wildlife. He’s been a National Geographic Explorer/Grantee and is a fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers. He’s received numerous other awards, his work has been exhibited in galleries across North America, and his work in the Sacred Headwaters (an area of northwest British Columbia that is the source of the Skeena, the Stikine and the Nass Rivers) helped protect the region from drilling.
Jon Holloway received the Greene Grant in 1996. Today he is a professional fine art and nature photographer based in Greenwood, South Carolina, where he owns the Sundance Gallery and teaches photography at Lander University. Jon has remained active in NANPA over the years, where he’s been a board member and a member of the College Scholarship Program Committee. We spoke with him earlier this year about how he, his teaching and his businesses were adapting to the havoc caused by COVID-19.
Michelle A. Butler received a Greene Grant in 2015. At that time, she was a student completing her Master’s of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco. She was working on a photo-documentary thesis project to raise awareness about the condition of birds in the Americas that highlighted the habitats required for nesting, wintering and migration. It also pointed out conservation efforts that citizens can make to help protect these essential components to our ecosystem. Later she was working with universities and non-profit organizations to preserve endangered plants in the desert areas of the American west.
