Your Name: William Page Pully

Title of Your Winning Image: Eagle Battle

About your winning Showcase image:

1)  How I Got the Shot

Migrating Bald Eagles gather on the Susquehanna River each fall to feed.  Coincident with the migration, wildlife photographers from around the world also gather to capture this spectacular event.  The eagles are concentrated and competition for food is fierce.  Most often when an eagle successfully catches a fish, it is chased and challenged for the fish.  This photo captures one of these battles.  The juvenile eagle captured a fish and the adult eagle challenged it.  The juvenile fought back fiercely but ultimately the fish was dropped.

Conowingo is a very special place for me because it is where I was inspired to pursue nature photography.  Onec I witnessed the amazing natural spectacle of bald eagles and great nature photographers who gather there every year, I was all in.

2)  What I Used

This image was captured with a Nikon D5, NIKKOR Lens (800mm, f/8.0, 1/3200s, ISO-640).

3)  About Me

I am avid amateur photographer based in Aberdeen, MD and Belmar, NJ. I have been shooting nature photography for about 5 years. My favorite subjects are raptors and shorebirds.  I mostly shoot in the Mid-Atlantic area but have also traveled to many other states in the US to explore the wildlife.

4)  My Photographic Journey

I have always been interested in nature and wildlife but became serious about photography about 5 years ago when I wandered into the Conowingo Dam area during peak eagle season.  I encountered an incredible natural spectacle and hundreds of passionate photographers trying to capture the action.  Soon after, I got my first super-telephoto lens, a Sigma 50-500, and quickly became a regular photographing eagles.  As time passed and my interest grew, I upgraded my equipment and broadened my photography subjects to other birds and animals. I hope to continue exploring, improving, sharing images of nature and working to support wildlife.

5)  NANPA and Me

I am a new member to NANPA this year but have submitted photos to the NANPA showcase last year. I have not been recognized in the past.
