If a nature photographer clicks her shutter in the wilderness, and no one else is around to hear it, can it still make an impact? It sure can! The work of professional and aspiring nature photographers can save ecosystems, species and beautiful landmarks. NANPA understands the important work you’re doing.
And better than the sound of one hand clapping, NANPA and the NANPA Foundation have many ways to recognize and support the work, career or budding potential of nature photographers. All during the year, there are opportunities to apply or nominate someone for an award, a grant or other recognition.

NANPA Mission Award
The NANPA Mission Award recognizes outstanding efforts or accomplishments by one of our members. This award exemplifies what NANPA is really all about, and the recipient should epitomize NANPA’s principles in accordance with NANPA’s mission statement. In addition, nominees should include members who have used or are using their photography to further NANPA’s mission.
Who do you know that’s giving back to the photo community, promoting nature photography, raising public awareness of nature and nature photography and living NANPA’s values?

NANPA Summit College Photography Scholarship Program
If you’re a college student and love nature and photography, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You’ll make personal contacts with the top pros in nature photography, as well as editors and other industry leaders, as you participate in the 2019 North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) Summit College Photography Scholarship Program. It will be held before the biennial NANPA Nature Photography Summit and Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, in February 2019.
To qualify, you must be at least 19 years of age as of December 31, 2018, and a full-time college student in an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or trade/vocational school. You don’t have to be an art or photography major, or even call yourself a nature photographer, but you will be one when you leave the Summit! You do have to have a digital camera that accepts interchangeable lenses. Lastly, transportation to and from the Summit site is the responsibility of the student. Past winners of NANPA’s high school and college scholarships are not eligible to apply.

NANPA Showcase Photo Competition
And who can forget Showcase? NANPA’s signature photo competition gives you a chance to see how your images compare to those of other NANPA members. You can enter photos in any of five categories: mammals, birds, scapes (landscapes, seascapes, plantscape, weather and more), macro, micro and other wildlife, and altered reality. Images are reviewed by a prestigious panel of judges and there are some terrific prize packages, including publication in Expressions.

Janie Moore Greene Scholarship Grant
This scholarship grant of $1,000 is awarded to a student currently enrolled in, or who has been accepted to, an institution of higher education specializing in the study of photography. This grant is made possible through the generosity of Janie Moore Greene.
Undergraduate and graduate students at two- and four-year institutions are eligible and the winner will be announced at NANPA Nature Photography Summit and Trade Show, February 21-23, 2019 in Las Vegas.

Philip Hyde Grant
This $2,500 grant is awarded annually by the NANPA Foundation to an individual NANPA member who is actively pursuing completion of a peer-reviewed environmental project that is consistent with the missions of NANPA and the NANPA Foundation.
The NANPA member must be working on an existing project designed to improve, protect or preserve the condition of the environment, and photography must be an integral component. For complete details, see the Philip Hyde Grant webpage.
