How did you get the image?
Devil’s Tower has always been on my ‘bucket list’ of places to see and photograph. And last August I finally had the opportunity to spend a few days in Wyoming to experience this fantastic geological feature.
What was unique about this opportunity you had to capture the image?
Though I did not have optimum conditions when I saw Devils Tower, I was entranced by the gorgeous golden grass in the foreground. That became the inspiration for the image.
What equipment and camera settings were you using to capture the image?
I took a straight shot of the scene that showcased the lovely grasses, and I used an app on my iPhone 7 to create the ‘eye’ effect with the Tower in the center of the shot. I made final adjustments in Photoshop to finish the image.

How long have you been photographing and what, in particular, got you into nature photography?
I have been photographing since 1992 when I got my first SLR. Since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the natural world. I am an outdoors person and have always been a hiker and backpacker. I believe that a deep connection with Nature is vital to everyone’s health and wellbeing. The time I spend in Nature is a sacred time, and I hope that my images might awaken a reverence and curiosity about nature in others.
Describe your nature photography experience level and current status.
I am retired and able to pursue my passion for nature photography full time. I have been honored to receive numerous awards for my photography. I was the Grand Prize winner in the 2012 Audubon Magazine contest and a category winner in Nature’s Best International Photography contest. I sell my photos through Getty and in a local art gallery.
