NANPA’s executive director Susan Day says NANPA would not be as successful without Richard Halperin’s professional leadership and sharp legal mind. “He is a consultant at NANPA and NANPA Foundation board meetings,” says Susan. “Richard shares his editing and public speaking skills for NANPA’s benefit, and he spends countless hours on committees. He is an advocate for professional nature photographers and NANPA’s liaison with the photo industry on litigation (ASMP, PACA, PPA).” Here’s the eNews interview with Richard Halperin.
What is your “day job?”
I’m a partner in a New York law firm. My practice mostly involves tax law, including a lot of cross-border issues, estate planning, intellectual property and art law.
What committees have you served on, when, and what positions have you assumed?
I’ve been on the Finance Committee and the Executive Committee and now serve as chair of the Nominations Committee. I’ve served as a board member, as treasurer and as president.
What were the responsibilities you assumed?
A lot! Too numerous to mention.
What were your greatest accomplishments or the highlights thus far of what you have done?
I think that I helped NANPA maintain a solid financial footing after the 2008 recession affected the economy and many nonprofit associations, including NANPA. But the real highlight was meeting and working with so many NANPA members who were so generous with their time and knowledge.
How long have you been a NANPA member and how or why did you join the committee(s) you are on?
I’m a charter member of NANPA and have attended every NANPA Summit (in the old days we called them Forums). I experienced the palpable excitement of the first meeting in Fort Myers and the inspiration and friendship of all the meetings that followed. I was asked to join the committees that I’ve served on and didn’t say no.
